Publishing is the act of making work available for other people to read. So you can be published if your work appears on the internet, in the readers’ letters pages of your local paper, in an anthology, or in a book of your own. The format isn’t an issue: your work can appear in print, as an electronic book, or even engraved onto six-foot high sheets of galvanised steel: the important thing is that however you are published, you must do your best to ensure that you are published in the best way possible for you and your book. Because even if you’re desperate to get published, it’s better to remain unpublished than to be published badly.
