About Me

The discussions which follow my blog posts are the best thing about this website. But just in case you’re curious, here’s a little about me.

I live with my husband, our children, our vile dog and our four superior cats in the Peak District National Park. Our house is in the middle of nowhere, is part-derelict and off-grid, and we’re now mostly wind-powered. Don’t laugh.

I’ve worked as an editor, a researcher, a ghostwriter and a writer for nearly three decades now. That includes a year or two each in newspaper publishing and computer games publishing, but most of the time has been spent working in the book world.

My articles have appeared in the UK’s national press, in magazines, and on the internet. I’ve won a few prizes for my writing, I have an MA in writing from Sheffield Hallam University, and I am almost always working on a novel and a couple of non-fiction books.

I also run The Self-Publishing Review, where I review self-published books following the standards set by mainstream publishing. Submissions welcome.
