I Can’t Believe It’s Been So Long

Twenty years ago today I went to a good friend’s Christmas party and my life was transformed.  I met a young man who had only just moved from Chesterfield to London. He was quiet and funny and clever and kind and although I’d like to be able to say that I recognised all this from that very first moment, it wasn’t until we both went to that same friend’s Christmas party three years later that I realised how very special he was.

We’ve now been together for seventeen very happy years, and married for seven of them.  I don’t know where I would have been without him. Happy anniversary, my darling Big Dave. My hero, my husband, and love of my life.

I feel I know Big Dave quite well from all your tweets (and I’ve even met him, breifly, twice and it seems to me you are not deluded) and I wish you all many many many more happy years together. Hooray!

This is why people should always go to parties. In addition to having a lot of fun, one could very well meet the love of one’s life.

I love hearing stories about Big Dave. You should write a book! :D

    Happy Anniversary to you.

Isn’t it fun how love just slaps you upside the head when you’re not looking? Happy Anniversary to you both! May you have many, many happy years!

    I am now officially smug.

Big Dave is downstairs cooking a meat pie; I have a glass of celebratory pink fizz to my elbow; and our lovely boys are secretly wrapping presents in the sitting room. Not that I know what they’re doing, of course, but there you go. What a lovely day we’ve had; and what a wonderful twenty years. Thanks, all. I don’t quite know what I’ve done to deserve a husband as special as Big Dave, or friends as cool as you lot, but it must have been something big!
